✧ Jibril ﷺ came and asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He gave him permission, but he was slow to come in. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took his cloak and went to him while he was standing at the door. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'We have given permission.' He said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah, but we do not enter a house in which there is an image or a dog.' So they looked and found a puppy in one of their houses. Abu Rafi' ؓ said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me when I woke up, and I did not leave a dog in Madinah without killing it. Then I came upon a woman in a remote area who had a dog that barked in her defense, and I felt compassion for her, so I left it and came to him ﷺ and informed him. He commanded me to kill it, so I returned to the dog and killed it.' He said: 'The people said: What is lawful for us, O Messenger of Allah, of this community that you commanded to be killed?' Then Allah, Blessed and Exalted, sent down: 'And what you have trained of hunting animals, as trainers' (Qur'an 5:4).
