✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was concerned about the call to prayer, and he disliked using a bell as the people of Makkah did. He ﷺ used to send men when prayer time came, and they would be busy with that instead of prayer. Abdullah b. Zayd al-Ansari ؓ returned, concerned with the Messenger's ﷺ concern, and he was visited in a dream. It was said to him: 'Why are you concerned?' He said: 'Because of the Messenger's ﷺ concern.' The one who came to him said: 'Go to the Prophet ﷺ and tell him to call for prayer: Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, twice; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah, twice; Hayya 'ala al-salah, twice; Hayya 'ala al-falah, twice; Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar; La ilaha illa Allah.' Then he said to him: 'Make between the adhan and the iqamah something like that.' He said: Abdullah ؓ went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him that. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Teach it to Bilal.' Then Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ came and said: 'I saw the like of what Abdullah b. Zayd saw, but Abdullah preceded me.'
