✧ Some people were at Aishah's ؓ tent—I think that was in Makkah—and Uthman ؓ passed by them. Abu Said ؓ said: There remained none of the group but cursed or reviled him except me. Among those who cursed or reviled him was a man from Kufah. Uthman ؓ was harsher toward the Kufan than toward others. He said: O Kufan, do you revile me? As if threatening him. He said: Then he went to Madinah, and it was said to him—meaning to the Kufan—: Go to Talhah. Talhah ؓ went with him until he came to Uthman ؓ. Uthman ؓ said: By God, I will flog you a hundred lashes. Talhah said: By God, you will not flog him unless he is an adulterer. He said: I will deprive you of your stipend. Talhah ؓ said: O Kufan, God will provide for you.
