✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away and those who apostatized did so, ʿAdī b. Ḥātim stood with a thousand men from Ṭayyiʾ. Abū Bakr ؓ sent Khālid b. al-Walīd ؓ to al-Yamāmah. He said: The Banū ʿĀmir had killed the agents of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and burned them with fire. Abū Bakr wrote to Khālid ؓ: 'Kill the Banū ʿĀmir and burn them with fire.' He did so until the women cried out. Then he proceeded until he reached the water. They came out to him, and he said: 'Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar.' They said: 'We bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and we bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.' When he heard that, he held back from them.
