✧ I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Farewell Pilgrimage, and he brought his wives ؓ with him. She said: My baggage was light, so it was on a swift camel. The baggage of Safiyyah bt. Huyayy ؓ was heavy, so it was on a slow, heavy camel that held back the caravan. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Transfer Aishah's baggage onto Safiyyah's camel, and transfer Safiyyah's baggage onto Aishah's camel, so that the caravan can proceed." When I saw that, Aishah ؓ said: I said, "O refuge with Allah! Has this Jewess prevailed over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Umm Abd Allah, your baggage was light, and Safiyyah's baggage was heavy, so the caravan was delayed. We transferred her baggage onto your camel and your baggage onto her camel." She said: I said, "Do you not claim that you are the Messenger of Allah?" She said: The Prophet ﷺ smiled and said, "Are you in doubt about me, O Umm Abd Allah?" She said: I said, "Do you not claim that you are the Messenger of Allah? Then why did you not act justly?" Abu Bakr ؓ heard me, and he had sharpness, that is, a temper. He came to me and slapped my face. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Gently, O Abu Bakr." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you not hear?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A jealous woman cannot see the bottom of the valley from its top."
