✧ While my father was on a raid in the pre-Islamic era, they suffered from the heat. A man said, "Who will give me his sandals, and I will marry him to the first daughter born to me?" My father took off his sandals and threw them to him. A girl was born to the man and reached maturity. My father said, "Gather my family to me," and then said, "Bring the dowry." He said, "By God, I will not give you more than what I gave you: the sandals." My father said, "By God, I will not give her to you except with a dowry." So my father came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and asked him about that. He said, "Shall I not inform you of what is better than that? Leave her, so you will not break your oath, and you will not cause your companion to break his." So my father left her.
