✧ A man had land, and another man said to him: Would you like me to sharecrop with you, so that whatever Allah brings forth is divided between me and you? He said: Yes, until I ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He went to Abu Bakr and Umar ؓ, and they said: Ask the Prophet ﷺ. He asked him, and he did not reply to him at all. He said to them: He ﷺ did not reply to me at all! They said to him: Go ahead, for if it were forbidden he would have prohibited you from it. So he sharecropped with him until his crop swayed or turned green, and it was on the way of the Prophet ﷺ. He passed by it one day and said: Whose land is this? They said: It belongs to so-and-so; so-and-so sharecropped it. He ﷺ said: Summon them both! They both came, and he said to the owner of the land: Return to this man what he spent on your land, and you may keep what your land produced!
