✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'I broke the fast on a day in Ramadan.' He said: 'Without excuse or travel?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'What an evil thing you have done.' He said: 'What do you command me?' He said: 'Free a slave.' He said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, I have never owned a slave.' He said: 'Then fast two consecutive months.' He said: 'I am not able to do that.' He said: 'Then feed sixty poor people.' He said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, I cannot even satisfy my own family.' He said: 'A basket of dates was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: 'Give this in charity to sixty poor people.' He said: 'To whom should I give it?' He said: 'To the poorest person you know.' He said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, there is no household between its two lava fields more needy than us.' So he ﷺ said: 'Give it in charity to your dependents.'
