✧ Urging charity and its virtue

وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ قَالَ:

أَتَى رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي ذُو مَالٍ كَثِيرٍ، وَذُو أَهْلٍ وَحَاضِرَةٍ، فَأَخْبِرْنِي كَيْفَ أُنْفِقُ، وَكَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ -: تُخْرِجُ الزَّكَاةَ مِنْ مَالِكَ، فَإِنَّهَا طُهْرَةٌ تُطَهِّرُكَ، وَتَصِلُ أَقْرِبَاءَكَ، وَتَعْرِفُ حَقَّ السَّائِلِ، وَالْجَارِ، وَالْمِسْكِينِ، وَآتِ ذَا الْقُرْبَى حَقَّهُ... الْآيَةَ

Translation

✧ A man from Banu Tamim came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have abundant wealth and family and a town presence, so tell me how I should spend and what I should do.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Bring out the zakat from your wealth, for it is a purification that purifies you, and maintain ties with your relatives, and recognize the right of the beggar, the neighbor, and the poor, and give the near of kin his due...' the verse.
