✧ Dislike of Mentioning Allah Most High Without Wudu

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْبَيْلَمَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:

رَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ ؓ جَالِسًا بِالْمَقَاعِدِ يَتَوَضَّأُ، فَمَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ وُضُوئِهِ. ثُمَّ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَوَقَفَ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ، فَقَالَ: لَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي أَنْ أَرُدَّ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: « مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتَكَلَّمْ حَتَّى يَقُولَ: أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ - غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَ الْوُضُوءَيْنِ

Translation

✧ I saw 'Uthman b. 'Affan ؓ sitting at the maqa'id performing wudu. A man passed by and greeted him, but he did not respond until he finished his wudu. Then he entered the mosque, stood before the man, and said: Nothing prevented me from responding to you except that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Whoever performs wudu and then does not speak until he says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger—his sins between the two wudus are forgiven.'
