✧ The sun eclipsed one day during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood to pray, and he stood so long that he almost did not bow. Then he bowed so long that he almost did not raise his head. Then he raised his head and almost did not prostrate. Then he prostrated and almost did not raise his head. He began to blow and weep, saying: 'My Lord, did You not promise me that You would not punish them while I am among them? My Lord, did You not promise me that You would not punish them while we seek Your forgiveness?' When he had prayed two rak'ahs, the sun became clear. He stood, praised Allah, and extolled Him, and said: 'The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. When they eclipse, hasten to the remembrance of Allah.' Then he said: 'Paradise was shown to me until if I wished I could have taken a bunch of its fruits. And Hell was shown to me, and I began to blow on it, fearing that it would overwhelm you. So I began to say: My Lord, did You not promise me that You would not punish them while I am among them? My Lord, did You not promise me that You would not punish them while they seek forgiveness?' He said: 'I saw in it the tall black Himyari woman, the owner of the cat. She used to confine it, neither feeding it nor giving it water, nor letting it eat from the insects of the earth. I saw her every time it turned away, it bit her, and every time it turned toward her, it bit her, in the Fire. And I saw the owner of the two sandals, the brother of Banu Da'da', being pushed into the Fire with a staff having two prongs. And I saw the owner of the hooked staff in the Fire, who used to steal from the pilgrims with his hooked staff and say: I am not stealing; only the hooked staff steals. I saw him in the Fire leaning on his hooked staff.'
