Mention of what God revealed in the Qurʾān concerning Uḥud
ذِكْرُ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِي أُحُدٍ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ هِشَامٍ. قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَكَّائِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إسْحَاقَ الْمُطَّلِبِيِّ، قَالَ: فَكَانَ مِمَّا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فِي يَوْمِ أُحُدٍ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ سِتُّونَ آيَةً مِنْ آلِ عِمْرَانَ، فِيهَا صِفَةُ مَا كَانَ فِي يَوْمِهِمْ ذَلِكَ، وَمُعَاتَبَةُ مَنْ عَاتَبَ مِنْهُمْ، يَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى لِنَبِيِّهِ ﷺ: وَإِذْ غَدَوْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ تُبَوِّئُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَقَاعِدَ لِلْقِتَالِ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: تُبَوِّئُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ: تَتَّخِذُ لَهُمْ مَقَاعِدَ وَمَنَازِلَ. قَالَ الْكُمَيْتُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ: لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ قَبْلَهُ قَدْ تَبَوَّأْتُ مَضْجَعَا وَهَذَا الْبَيْتُ فِي أَبْيَاتٍ لَهُ. أَيْ سَمِيعٌ بِمَا تَقُولُونَ، عَلِيمٌ بِمَا تُخْفُونَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of what Allah revealed in the Qurʾān concerning Uḥud. In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful. He said: Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Malik b. Hishām related to us. He said: Ziyād b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Bakkāʾī related to us from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq al-Muṭṭalibī, who said: Among what Allah, blessed and exalted is He, revealed in the Qurʾān concerning the day of Uḥud were sixty verses of Āl ʿImrān, containing a description of what happened on that day of theirs and the reproof of those among them whom He reproved. Allah, blessed and exalted is He, says to His Prophet ﷺ: “And when you went forth early from your family to assign the believers their positions for battle; Allah is Hearing, Knowing.” Ibn Hishām said: “to assign the believers their positions” means you took for them positions and stations. Al-Kumayt b. Zayd said: “Would that I had, before it, taken a resting place.” This verse is among other verses of his. That is: He is Hearing of what you say, Knowing of what you conceal.
