The death of ʿAmr b. al-Jamūḥ
Translation
✧ [The killing of ʿAmr b. al-Jamūḥ] Ibn Isḥāq said: My father Isḥāq b. Yasār narrated to me, from elders of the Banū Salamah: that ʿAmr b. al-Jamūḥ was a man with a severe limp, and he had four sons like lions, who attended the expeditions with the Messenger of God ﷺ. When the day of Uḥud came, they wanted to detain him, and they said to him: God, Mighty and Majestic, has excused you. So he went to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: My sons want to detain me from this campaign and from going out with you in it. By God, I hope to tread with this limp of mine in Paradise. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: As for you, God has excused you, so no jihād is incumbent upon you. And he said to his sons: What harm is there for you if you do not prevent him? Perhaps God will grant him martyrdom. So he went out with him, and he was killed on the day of Uḥud.
