Incitement to fight the Messenger

Translation

✧ [What happened with Mirbaʿ when the Muslims went through his walled garden] Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said to his companions: "Which man will bring us out against the people from a close distance—that is, from near—by a path that does not take us past them?" Abū Khaythamah, the brother of the Banū Ḥārithah b. al-Ḥārith, said: "I will, O Messenger of God." So he took him through the ḥarrah of the Banū Ḥārithah and among their properties, until he went into a property belonging to Mirbaʿ b. Qayẓī, who was a hypocrite, blind of sight. When he heard the sound of the Messenger of God ﷺ and the Muslims with him, he stood up throwing dust in their faces and saying: "If you are the Messenger of God, then I will not permit you to enter my walled garden." It has been mentioned to me that he took a handful of dust in his hand, then said: "By God, if I knew that I would strike no one but you with it, O Muḥammad, I would strike your face with it." The people rushed to kill him, but the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Do not kill him, for this blind man is blind of heart, blind of sight." Saʿd b. Zayd, the brother of the Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal, had already rushed at him before the Messenger of God ﷺ forbade it, and struck him with a bow on his head, wounding him.
