The conversion of ʿUmayr b. Wahb
Translation
✧ [ʿUmar's sighting of him and his informing the Messenger about the affair of ʿUmayr b. Wahb] He said: Then ʿUmayr commanded that his sword be sharpened for him and poisoned. Then he departed until he arrived in Madinah. While ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb was among a group of the Muslims conversing about the day of Badr, and mentioning what God had honored them with, and what He had shown them of their enemy, ʿUmar looked at ʿUmayr b. Wahb when he made his camel kneel at the gate of the mosque, girded with the sword. He said: This dog, the enemy of God, is ʿUmayr b. Wahb. By God, he has not come except for evil. He is the one who incited between us and estimated our numbers for the people on the day of Badr. Then ʿUmar entered upon the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: O Prophet of God, this enemy of God, ʿUmayr b. Wahb, has come girded with his sword. He said: Bring him in to me. He said: ʿUmar went forward until he seized the strap of his sword on his neck and bound him with it. He said to some men from the Anṣār who were with him: Enter upon the Messenger of God ﷺ and sit with him, and be on your guard against this wicked one, for he is not to be trusted. Then he brought him in to the Messenger of God ﷺ.
