The Dream of Juhaym b. al-Ṣalt about the Slain of Quraysh
[ رُؤْيَا جُهَيْمِ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ فِي مَصَارِعِ قُرَيْشٍ ] ( قَالَ ): وَأَقْبَلَتْ قُرَيْشٌ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلُوا الْجُحْفَةَ، رَأَى جُهَيْمُ بْنُ الصَّلْتِ ابْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ بْنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ رُؤْيَا، فَقَالَ: إنِّي رَأَيْتُ فِيمَا يَرَى النَّائِمُ، وَإِنِّي لَبَيْنَ النَّائِمِ وَالْيَقِظَانِ. إذْ نَظَرْتُ إلَى رَجُلٍ قَدْ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ حَتَّى وَقَفَ، وَمَعَهُ بَعِيرٌ لَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: قُتِلَ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، وَشَيْبَةُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، وَأَبُو الْحَكَمِ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، وَأُمَيَّةُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ، وَفُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ، فَعَدَّدَ رِجَالًا مِمَّنْ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ، مِنْ أَشْرَافِ قُرَيْشٍ، ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُهُ ضَرَبَ فِي لَبَّةِ بَعِيرِهِ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَهُ فِي الْعَسْكَرِ، فَمَا بَقِيَ خِبَاءٌ مِنْ أَخْبِيَةِ الْعَسْكَرِ إلَّا أَصَابَهُ نَضْحٌ مِنْ دَمِهِ. قَالَ: فَبَلَّغْتُ أَبَا جَهْلٍ، فَقَالَ: وَهَذَا أَيْضًا نَبِيٌّ آخَرُ مِنْ بَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ، سَيَعْلَمُ غَدًا مَنْ الْمَقْتُولُ إنْ نَحْنُ الْتَقَيْنَا
Translation
✧ [Juhaym b. al-Ṣalt's dream concerning the places where Quraysh would fall] He said: Quraysh advanced. When they halted at al-Juhfah, Juhaym b. al-Ṣalt b. Makhramah b. al-Muṭṭalib b. ʿAbd Manāf saw a dream. He said: I saw in what the sleeper sees, while I was between sleeping and waking, when I looked at a man who had come forward on a horse until he stopped, and with him was a camel of his. Then he said: ʿUtbah b. Rabīʿah has been killed, and Shaybah b. Rabīʿah, and Abū al-Ḥakam b. Hishām, and Umayyah b. Khalaf, and so-and-so and so-and-so—and he enumerated men from among those who were killed on the day of Badr, from the nobles of Quraysh. Then I saw him strike the throat-pit of his camel, then send it loose into the camp, and there remained no tent of the tents of the camp but that some sprinkling of its blood reached it. He said: I conveyed it to Abū Jahl, and he said: And this is another prophet from the Banū al-Muṭṭalib too! Tomorrow he will know who is the slain one, if we meet.
