The Dream of Juhaym b. al-Ṣalt about the Slain of Quraysh
Translation
✧ [ Abu Sufyan's message to Quraysh ] Ibn Ishaq said: When Abu Sufyan saw that he had secured his caravan, he sent to Quraysh: "You only went out to protect your caravan, your men, and your wealth, and God has delivered it, so return." Abu Jahl b. Hisham said: "By God, we will not return until we arrive at Badr"—Badr was one of the Arab festivals, where a market gathered for them every year—"and we will stay there three days, slaughter camels, feed people, give wine to drink, and the singing-girls will play for us. The Arabs will hear of us, our march, and our gathering, and they will continue to fear us forever after that. So proceed."
