The Muslims' Route to Badr

Translation

✧ [The remainder of the route to Badr] The Messenger of God ﷺ encamped at Sajsaj, which is the well of al-Rawḥāʾ. Then he departed from there until, when he was at al-Munṣaraf, he left the road to Makkah on the left, and took the route on the right by al-Nāziyah, making for Badr. He traversed a side of it until he crossed a valley called Ruḥqān, between al-Nāziyah and the narrow pass of al-Ṣafrāʾ—then over the pass—then he descended from it until, when he was near al-Ṣafrāʾ, he sent Basbas b. al-Juhanī, confederate of Banū Sāʿidah, and ʿAdī b. Abī al-Zaghbāʾ al-Juhanī, confederate of Banū al-Najjār, to Badr to seek out news for him about Abū Sufyān b. Ḥarb and others. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ departed, and he had already arrived at it. When he came upon al-Ṣafrāʾ, which is a village between two mountains, he asked about the two mountains: what were their names? They said: One of them is called Musliḥ, and the other Mukhriʾ. He asked about their people, and it was said: Banū al-Nār and Banū Ḥurāq, two clans of Banū Ghifār. The Messenger of God ﷺ disliked them and passing between them, and he took ill omens from their names and the names of their people. So the Messenger of God ﷺ left them and al-Ṣafrāʾ on the left, and took the route on the right by a valley called Dhafirān. He crossed it, then encamped.
