Quraysh's Preparation to March Out

Translation

✧ [ʿUqbah mocking Umayyah for sitting, so he goes out] Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Najīḥ related to me that Umayyah b. Khalaf had resolved to remain behind, and he was an old, venerable, corpulent, heavy man. ʿUqbah b. Abī Muʿayṭ came to him while he was sitting in the mosque among his people, carrying a censer containing fire and incense, until he placed it before him. Then he said, “O Abū ʿAlī, perfume yourself with incense, for you are but one of the women.” He said, “May God make you ugly, and ugly what you have brought.” He said: Then he equipped himself and went out with the people.
