Some accounts of the hypocrites
Translation
✧ [What befell Ibn Sayfī as recompense for his allusion to the Messenger ﷺ] Ibn Isḥāq said: Jaʿfar b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī al-Ḥakam, who had reached the period [of the Prophet] and heard [traditions] and was a transmitter, related to me that Abū ʿĀmir came to the Messenger of God ﷺ when he arrived in Madinah, before he went out to Makkah, and said: "What is this religion that you have brought?" He said: "I have brought the ḥanīfiyyah, the religion of Abraham." He said: "Then I am upon it." The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: "You are not upon it." He said: "Yes, I am." He said: "You have, O Muḥammad, introduced into the ḥanīfiyyah what is not of it." He said: "I have not done so; rather, I have brought it white and pure." He said: "May God cause the liar to die as a fugitive, a stranger, alone," — alluding to the Messenger of God ﷺ, meaning that you have brought it in that manner. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Yes, so whoever lies, may God Most High do that to him." Thus he, the enemy of God, was that one. He went out to Makkah, and when the Messenger of God ﷺ conquered Makkah, he went out to al-Ṭāʾif. When the people of al-Ṭāʾif submitted, he joined Syria and died there as a fugitive, a stranger, alone.
