Some accounts of the hypocrites
[ الِاحْتِكَامُ إلَى قَيْصَرَ فِي مِيرَاثِهِ ] وَكَانَ قَدْ خَرَجَ مَعَهُ عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ عُلَاثَةَ بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ الْأَحْوَصِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ كِلَابٍ وَكِنَانَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ يالِيلَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ، فَلَمَّا مَاتَ اخْتَصَمَا فِي مِيرَاثِهِ إلَى قَيْصَرَ، صَاحِبِ الرُّومِ. فَقَالَ قَيْصَرُ: يَرِثُ أَهْلُ الْمَدَرِ أَهْلَ الْمَدَرِ، وَيَرِثُ أَهْلُ الْوَبَرِ أَهْلَ الْوَبَرِ، فَوَرِثَهُ كِنَانَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ يَالِيلَ بِالْمَدَرِ دُونَ عَلْقَمَةَ
Translation
✧ [Recourse to Caesar concerning his inheritance] With him had gone out ʿAlqamah b. ʿUlāthah b. ʿAwf b. al-Aḥwaṣ b. Jaʿfar b. Kilāb and Kinānah b. ʿAbd Yālīl b. ʿAmr b. ʿUmayr al-Thaqafī. When he died, they disputed his inheritance before Caesar, the ruler of the Byzantines. Caesar said: 'The settled people inherit the settled people, and the nomads inherit the nomads.' So Kinānah b. ʿAbd Yālīl inherited him by virtue of settled residence, to the exclusion of ʿAlqamah.
