Those who embraced Islam from the Jewish rabbis hypocritically

Translation

✧ [The expulsion of the hypocrites from the Mosque of the Messenger ﷺ] These hypocrites used to attend the mosque, listen to the Muslims' conversations, and mock and ridicule their religion. One day a group of them gathered in the mosque, and the Messenger of God ﷺ saw them talking among themselves, lowering their voices, some of them clinging to others. So the Messenger of God ﷺ ordered them, and they were expelled from the mosque with a rough expulsion. Abu Ayyub, Khalid b. Zayd b. Kulayb, stood up against ʿAmr b. Qays, one of the Banu Ghanm b. Malik b. al-Najjar—he had been the keeper of their idols in the pre-Islamic era—and seized his foot and dragged him until he expelled him from the mosque, while he said: "Will you expel me, O Abu Ayyub, from the enclosure of Banu Thaʿlaba?" Then Abu Ayyub also turned to Rafiʿ b. Wadiʿa, one of the Banu al-Najjar, and seized him by his cloak, then shook him violently and slapped his face, then expelled him from the mosque, while Abu Ayyub said to him: "Uff to you, O filthy hypocrite: back the way you came, O hypocrite, from the Mosque of the Messenger of God ﷺ." Ibn Hisham said: i.e., return by the path you came from. A poet said: He turned away and went back the way he came, and whoever was there bore the wrong. ʿImara b. Hazm stood up against Zayd b. ʿAmr, a man with a long beard, and seized his beard, leading him roughly by it until he expelled him from the mosque. Then ʿImara gathered his hands and struck him with them on his chest, a blow that felled him. He said—he says: "You scratched me, O ʿImara." He said: "May God distance you, O hypocrite, for what God has prepared for you of punishment is harsher than this; do not approach the Mosque of the Messenger of God ﷺ." Ibn Hisham said: al-ladm is striking with the palm of the hand. Tamim b. Ubayy b. Muqbil said: And in the heart there is a throbbing beneath its aorta, like the striking of a boy behind the hollow with a stone. Ibn Hisham said: al-ghayb is what is sunken in the ground, and al-abhar is the vein of the heart. Ibn Ishaq said: Abu Muhammad, a man of the Banu al-Najjar who had been present at Badr—Abu Muhammad Masʿud b. Aws b. Zayd b. Asram b. Zayd b. Thaʿlaba b. Ghanm b. Malik b. al-Najjar—stood up against Qays b. ʿAmr b. Sahl. Qays was a young lad, and no other young man was known among the hypocrites besides him. He began pushing him on the back of his neck until he expelled him from the mosque. And a man from Bali Khudra b. al-Khazraj, the clan of Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, called ʿAbd Allah b. al-Harith, stood up, when the Messenger of God ﷺ ordered the expulsion of the hypocrites from the mosque, against a man called al-Harith b. ʿAmr, who had a lock of hair. He seized his lock of hair and dragged him roughly by it, across whatever ground he passed, until he expelled him from the mosque. He says the hypocrite said: "You have been harsh, O Ibn al-Harith." He said to him: "You deserve that, O enemy of God, because of what God has revealed concerning you; do not approach the Mosque of the Messenger of God ﷺ, for you are unclean." And a man from Banu ʿAmr b. ʿAwf stood up against his brother Zuwayy b. al-Harith and expelled him from the mosque with a rough expulsion, and expressed disgust with him, saying: "Satan and his command have overcome you." These are those of the hypocrites who attended the mosque that day, and whom the Messenger of God ﷺ ordered to be expelled.
