Translation
✧ [Hassan's poetry in mourning al-Mut'im, and mention of his annulment of the parchment] Hassan b. Thabit said, weeping for al-Mut'im b. 'Adi when he died, and mentioning his undertaking to annul the parchment: O eye, weep for the chief of the people, and pour forth tears; and if you exhaust it, then pour blood. And weep for the great one of both Mash'arays, both of them; his kindness to people, as long as he spoke. If any glory could be immortalized forever among people, his glory today would make Mut'im endure. You protected the Messenger of Allah from them, so they became your slaves, as long as a pilgrim chants the talbiyah and enters ihram. If all of Ma'add were asked about him, and Qahtan, or the remaining remnant of Jurhum, They would say: He is the one who fulfills the protection of his neighbor and his covenant, on a day when he is betrayed. The shining sun does not rise above them upon his like among them, more mighty and greater. And more refusing when he refuses, and gentler in nature, and more protective of a neighbor when the night grows dark. Ibn Hisham said: His saying 'both of them' is from other than Ibn Ishaq.
