Sirat Ibn Hisham 436
Translation
✧ [How al-Muṭʿim gave protection to the Messenger of God ﷺ] Ibn Hishām said: As for his saying, “You protected the Messenger of God from them,” when the Messenger of God ﷺ turned away from the people of al-Ṭāʾif and they did not answer him to what he called them, of affirming him and supporting him, he went to Ḥirāʾ, then sent to al-Akhnas b. Sharīq to grant him protection. He said, “I am an ally, and an ally does not grant protection.” So he sent to Suhayl b. ʿAmr, and he said, “The Banū ʿĀmir do not grant protection against the Banū Kaʿb.” So he sent to al-Muṭʿim b. ʿAdī, and he answered him to that. Then al-Muṭʿim armed himself and his household, and they went out until they came to the mosque. Then he sent to the Messenger of God ﷺ that he should enter. The Messenger of God ﷺ entered and circumambulated the House and prayed at it. Then he departed to his home. That is what Ḥassān b. Thābit meant.
