Sirat Ibn Hisham 404
Translation
✧ [Umm Jamīl and God's turning her plot away from the Messenger ﷺ] Ibn Isḥāq said: It was mentioned to me that Umm Jamīl, the carrier of firewood, when she heard what had been revealed in the Qur'an concerning her and her husband, came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was sitting in the mosque near the Kaaba, and with him was Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, and in her hand was a stone pestle (fihr) of rocks. When she stood over the two of them, God took hold of her sight away from the Messenger of God ﷺ, so she saw only Abū Bakr. She said: "O Abū Bakr, where is your companion? It has reached me that he is satirizing me. By God, if I found him, I would strike his mouth with this pestle. By God, I am indeed a poetess." Then she said: Mudhammaman we disobeyed, and his command we refused, and his religion we loathed. Then she departed. Abū Bakr said: "O Messenger of God, did you not see that she saw you?" He said: "She did not see me. God took hold of her sight away from me." Ibn Hishām said: Her saying "and his religion we loathed" is from other than Ibn Isḥāq. Ibn Isḥāq said: The Quraysh used to call the Messenger of God ﷺ Mudhammam, then they would revile him. The Messenger of God ﷺ used to say: "Do you not wonder at how God turns away from me the harm of Quraysh? They revile and satirize Mudhammam, while I am Muḥammad."
