✧ The gifts to those whose hearts were to be reconciled Ibn Isḥāq said: The Messenger of God ﷺ gave to those whose hearts were to be reconciled, and they were nobles among the nobles of the people, he sought to win their hearts and to win through them their people. He gave Abū Sufyān b. Ḥarb one hundred camels, and he gave his son Muʿāwiyah one hundred camels, and he gave Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām one hundred camels, and he gave al-Ḥārith b. al-Ḥārith b. Kaladah, the brother of the Banū ʿAbd al-Dār, one hundred camels. Ibn Hishām said: Naṣīr b. al-Ḥārith b. Kaladah, and it is possible that his name was also al-Ḥārith. Ibn Isḥāq said: And he gave al-Ḥārith b. Hishām one hundred camels, and he gave Suhayl b. ʿAmr one hundred camels, and he gave Ḥuwayṭib b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. These are the ones of the hundreds. And he gave less than one hundred to men of Quraysh, among them Makhramah b. Nawfal al-Zuhrī, and ʿUmayr b. Wahb al-Jumaḥī, and Hishām b. ʿAmr the brother of the Banū ʿĀmir b. Luʾayy. I do not remember what he gave them, but I know that it was less than one hundred. And he gave Saʿīd b.
