The Messenger's prohibition against killing the weak

Translation

✧ [The Messenger's prohibition of killing the weak] Ibn Isḥāq said: Some of our companions related to me that the Messenger of God ﷺ passed by a woman that Khālid b. al-Walīd had killed, while the people were crowding around her. He said: "What is this?" They said: "A woman whom Khālid b. al-Walīd killed." So the Messenger of God ﷺ said to one of those with him: "Catch up with Khālid and say to him: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ forbids you to kill a child, a woman, or a hired servant.'" [The affair of Bijād and al-Shaymāʾ] Ibn Isḥāq said: Some of the Banū Saʿd b. Bakr related to me that the Messenger of God ﷺ said on that day: "If you get hold of Bijād, a man of the Banū Saʿd b. Bakr, do not let him escape you," for he had committed a crime. When the Muslims captured him, they drove him and his family, and they drove with him al-Shaymāʾ bt. al-Ḥārith b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā, the foster sister of the Messenger of God ﷺ. They treated her roughly while driving her, and she said to the Muslims: "Know, by God, that I am the foster sister of your companion." But they did not believe her until they brought her to the Messenger of God ﷺ. Ibn Isḥāq said: Yazīd b. ʿUbayd al-Saʿdī related to me, saying: When she was brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ, she said: "O Messenger of God, I am your foster sister." He said: "What is the sign of that?" She said: "A bite that you gave me on my back while I was carrying you." He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ recognized the sign, spread his cloak for her, seated her on it, and gave her a choice, saying: "If you wish, you shall have loving and honored treatment with me; and if you wish that I give you provision and you return to your people, I will do so." She said: "Rather, give me provision and return me to my people." So the Messenger of God ﷺ gave her provision and returned her to her people. The Banū Saʿd claimed that he gave her a slave boy of his called Makḥūl and a slave girl, and she married one to the other, and there remained among them descendants from their offspring. Ibn Hishām said: God, mighty and majestic, revealed concerning the day of Ḥunayn: "God has already helped you on many fields, and on the day of Ḥunayn, when your multitude pleased you..." up to His saying "... that is the recompense of the disbelievers."
