The valor of Ali and an Ansari in this battle

Translation

✧ [The valor of ʿAli and an Ansari in this battle] Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿĀṣim b. ʿUmar b. Qatādah related to me, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Jābir, from his father Jābir b. ʿAbd Allāh, who said: While that man of Hawāzin, the bearer of the banner, was on his camel doing what he was doing, ʿAli b. Abī Ṭālib, may God be pleased with him, and a man of the Anṣār rushed toward him, seeking him. He said: ʿAli b. Abī Ṭālib came at him from behind and struck the camel's two hocks, so it fell on its hindquarters, and the Anṣārī leaped upon the man and struck him a blow that severed his foot with half his shin, so he toppled from his saddle. He said: The people fought fiercely, and by God, the routed ones did not return from their flight until they found the captives bound with their arms tied behind their backs before the Messenger of God ﷺ. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ turned to Abū Sufyān b. al-Ḥārith b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, who was among those who stood firm that day with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and whose Islam was excellent when he embraced it, while he was holding the tail of his mule, and said: Who is this? He said: I am your mother's son, O Messenger of God. [The affair of Umm Sulaym] Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Bakr related to me that the Messenger of God ﷺ turned and saw Umm Sulaym bt. Milḥān, who was with her husband Abū Ṭalḥah, with a cloak tied around her waist, and she was pregnant with ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Ṭalḥah. With her was Abū Ṭalḥah's camel, and she feared the camel would get away from her, so she brought its head close to her and put her hand into its nose-ring along with the halter. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to her: Umm Sulaym? She said: Yes, may my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of God. Kill these people who are fleeing from you as you kill those who fight you, for they deserve that. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Or will God suffice you, O Umm Sulaym? He said: She had a dagger with her. Abū Ṭalḥah said to her: What is this dagger with you, O Umm Sulaym? She said: A dagger I have taken; if any of the polytheists comes near me, I will rip his belly open with it. He said: Abū Ṭalḥah was saying: Do you not hear, O Messenger of God, what Umm Sulaym al-Rumayṣāʾ says?
