Shayba's inability to kill the Messenger after he had resolved to do so

Translation

✧ [Shaybah's failure to kill the Messenger after having resolved to do so] Ibn Isḥāq said: Shaybah b. ʿUthmān b. Abī Ṭalḥah, brother of the Banū ʿAbd al-Dār, said: I said: Today I shall attain my vengeance (against Muḥammad), for his father was killed on the day of Uḥud; today I shall kill Muḥammad. He said: I circled around the Messenger of God ﷺ to kill him, but something came over me until it enveloped my heart, and I could not bear that, and I knew that he was protected from me. Ibn Isḥāq said: Some of the people of Makkah narrated to me that the Messenger of God ﷺ said when he departed from Makkah to Ḥunayn, and saw the great number of God's soldiers with him: We shall not be defeated today because of small numbers. Ibn Isḥāq said: Some people claimed that a man of the Banū Bakr said it. [The people's return at al-ʿAbbās's call and victory after defeat] Ibn Isḥāq said: Al-Zuhrī narrated to me, from Kathīr b. al-ʿAbbās, from his father al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, who said: I was with the Messenger of God ﷺ, holding the bit of his white mule, having forced it into her mouth. He said: I was a large man with a loud voice. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ was saying, when he saw what he saw of the people: Where are you, O people? But I did not see the people turning to anything. Then he said: O ʿAbbās, cry out: O company of the Anṣār, O company of the companions of the samurah tree. He said: They answered: At your service, at your service. He said: A man would go to turn his camel around, but could not do so; he would take his coat of mail and throw it over his neck, take his sword and shield, leap off his camel, leave its way free, and head toward the voice, until he reached the Messenger of God ﷺ. When a hundred of them had gathered to him, they faced the people and fought. The call at first was: O for the Anṣār! Then finally it became specific: O for the Khazraj! They were steadfast in battle. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ looked out from among his mounts and watched the clashing of the people as they fought, and said: Now the oven has grown hot.
