Account of the poetry recited on the day of Uḥud

Translation

✧ [The poetry of Abū al-Ḥakam in consolation for Nuʿam] Her brother answered her, and he is Abū al-Ḥakam b. Saʿīd b. Yarbūʿ, consoling her, and he said: Preserve your modesty in veiling and in noble conduct, for Shammās was only one among people. Do not destroy yourself, since his appointed time came in obedience to God on the day of terror and hardship. Ḥamzah was the lion of God, so be patient; on that day Shammās tasted from the cup.
