Sirat Ibn Hisham 1059
Account of the poetry recited on the day of Uḥud
Translation
✧ [Poetry of Hind after her return from Uḥud] Hind bt. ʿUtbah said, when the polytheists turned away from Uḥud: I returned, and in my soul are many griefs, / and part of what I sought has escaped me— / from the companions of Badr, of Quraysh and others, / Banū Hāshim among them, and from the people of Yathrib. / But I did attain something, though it was not / as I had hoped in my journey and my riding. Ibn Hishām said: One of the people of learning in poetry recited to me her saying: “And part of what I sought has escaped me”; but some of them deny it is by Hind, and God knows best.
