✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abū Qatādah al-Anṣārī to collect zakāt, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out with his companions in a state of iḥrām until they camped at ʿUsfān, at the pass of al-Ghazzāl. There they saw a wild donkey. Abū Qatādah came, and he was not in iḥrām. They lowered their heads, disliking to fix their gaze on it lest he notice it. He saw it, mounted his horse, took the spear, and the whip fell from him. He said: “Hand it to me.” We said: “We will not help you with it in any way.” He charged at it and hamstrung it. He said: Then they began to roast from it, then they said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is among us,” and he had gone ahead of them. They came to him and asked him, and he saw no harm in it, and I think he said: “Do you have any of it with you?”
