The second pledge of al-Aqabah and what occurred therein

Translation

✧ [The Devil's alarming of those who pledged allegiance at al-Aqabah the second time] When we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the Devil cried out from the top of al-Aqabah with the most piercing voice I had ever heard: 'O people of al-jubājib—and al-jubājib means the dwellings—do you care about Mudhammam, and the ṣubāh are with him? They have gathered together to wage war against you.' He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'This is Azabb al-Aqabah, this is Ibn Azyab'—Ibn Hishām said: and it is said Ibn Uzayb—'do you hear, O enemy of Allah? By Allah, I will surely find time for you.' [The pledgers' hastening for permission to wage war] He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Disperse to your mounts.' He said: Al-ʿAbbās b. ʿUbādah b. Naḍlah said to him: 'By Allah who sent you with the truth, if you wish, we will fall upon the people of Minā tomorrow with our swords?' He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'We have not been commanded to do that, but return to your mounts.' He said: So we returned to our resting places and slept there until morning.
