Translation
✧ [ The first to strike the hand of the Messenger in the second pledge of al-ʿAqabah ] Ibn Isḥāq said: The Banū al-Najjār claim that Abū Umāmah, Asʿad b. Zurārah, was the first to strike his hand, while the Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal say: Rather, it was Abū al-Haytham b. al-Tayyihān. Ibn Isḥāq said: As for Maʿbad b. Kaʿb b. Mālik, he related to me in his account, from his brother ʿAbd Allāh b. Kaʿb, from his father Kaʿb b. Mālik, who said: The first to strike the hand of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was al-Barāʾ b. Maʿrūr. Then the people pledged allegiance after him.
