The first pledge of al-Aqabah and the beginning of the Ansar's entry into Islam
الْعَقَبَةُ الْأُولَى وَمُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ حَتَّى إذَا كَانَ الْعَامُ الْمُقْبِلُ وَافَى الْمَوْسِمَ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ رَجُلًا، فَلَقَوْهُ بِالْعَقَبَةِ. ( قَالَ ) وَهِيَ الْعَقَبَةُ الْأُولَى، فَبَايَعُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى بَيْعَةِ النِّسَاءِ وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُفْتَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ الْحَرْبُ. [ رِجَالُ الْعَقَبَةِ الْأُولَى مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ] مِنْهُمْ مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ، ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي مَالِكِ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ: أَسْعَدُ بْنُ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ عُدَسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ غَنْمِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ، وَهُوَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ؛ وَعَوْفٌ، وَمُعَاذٌ، ابْنَا الْحَارِثِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ سَوَادِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ غَنْمِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ، وَهُمَا ابْنَا عَفْرَاءَ. [ رِجَالُ الْعَقَبَةِ الْأُولَى مِنْ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي زُرَيْقِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ: رَافِعُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْعَجْلَانِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَيْقٍ ؟ وَذَكْوَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ قَيْسِ بْنِ خَلَدَةَ بْنِ مُخْلِدِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ زُرَيْقٍ. قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: ذَكْوَانُ، مُهَاجِرِيٌّ أَنْصَارِيٌّ. [ رِجَالُ الْعَقَبَةِ الْأُولَى مِنْ بَنِي عَوْفٍ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي عَوْفِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي غَنْمِ بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، وَهُمْ الْقَوَاقِلُ: عُبَادَةُ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَصْرَمَ بْنِ فِهْرِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ غَنْمٍ، وَأَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَهُوَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ خَزْمَةَ بْنِ أَصْرَمَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَمَّارَةَ مِنْ بَنِي غُصَيْنَةَ، مِنْ بَلِيٍّ، حَلِيفٌ لَهُمْ. [ رِجَالُ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ بَنِي سَالِمٍ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَمِنْ بَنِي سَالِمِ بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي الْعَجْلَانِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ غَنْمِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ: الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نَضَلَةَ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْعَجْلَانِ. [ رِجَالُ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ بِلَامِ مَكْسُورَةٍ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسَدِ بْنِ سَارِدَةَ بْنِ تَزِيدَ بْنِ جُشَمَ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي حَرَامِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ غَنْمِ بْنِ سَلِمَةَ: عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ نَابِي بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَرَامٍ. [ رِجَالُ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ بَنِي سَوَادٍ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي سَوَادِ بْنِ غَنْمِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ سَلِمَةَ قُطْبَةُ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ حَدِيدَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ غَنْمِ بْنِ سَوَادِ. [ رِجَالُ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ الْأَوْسِ ] وَشَهِدَهَا مِنْ الْأَوْسِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَامِرٍ، ثُمَّ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْأَشْهَلِ بْنِ جُشَمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْأَوْسِ: أَبُو الْهَيْثَمِ بْنُ التَّيِّهَانِ، وَاسْمُهُ مَالِكٌ قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: التَّيِّهَانُ: يُخَفَّفُ وَيُثَقَّلُ، كَقَوْلِهِ مَيْتٌ وَمَيِّتٌ. [ رِجَالُ الْعَقَبَةِ الْأُولَى مِنْ بَنِي عَمْرٍو ] وَمِنْ بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْأَوْسِ: عُوَيْمُ بْنُ سَاعِدَةَ.
Translation
✧ The First ʿAqabah and Muṣʿab b. ʿUmayr When the next year came, twelve men from the Anṣār attended the pilgrimage season, and they met him at al-ʿAqabah. (He said) This is the first ʿAqabah, and they pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ according to the pledge of women, and that was before warfare was made obligatory upon them. [The men of the first ʿAqabah from the Banū al-Najjār] Among them from the Banū al-Najjār, then from the Banū Mālik b. al-Najjār: Asʿad b. Zurārah b. ʿUdas b. ʿUbayd b. Thaʿlabah b. Ghanm b. Mālik b. al-Najjār, and he is Abū Umāmah; and ʿAwf and Muʿādh, the two sons of al-Ḥārith b. Rifāʿah b. Sawād b. Mālik b. Ghanm b. Mālik b. al-Najjār, and they are the two sons of ʿAfrāʾ. [The men of the first ʿAqabah from the Banū Zurayq] And from the Banū Zurayq b. ʿĀmir: Rāfiʿ b. Mālik b. al-ʿAjlān b. ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir b. Zurayq? and Dhakwān b. ʿAbd Qays b. Khaladah b. Mukhlid b. ʿĀmir b. Zurayq. Ibn Hishām said: Dhakwān was a Muhājirī Anṣārī. [The men of the first ʿAqabah from the Banū ʿAwf] And from the Banū ʿAwf b. al-Khazraj, then from the Banū Ghanm b. ʿAwf b. ʿAmr b. ʿAwf b. al-Khazraj, and they are the Qawāqil: ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit b. Qays b. Aṣram b. Fihr b. Thaʿlabah b. Ghanm, and Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and he is Yazīd b. Thaʿlabah b. Khazmah b. Aṣram b. ʿAmr b. ʿAmmārah from the Banū Ghuṣaynah, from Balī, an ally of theirs. [The men of the ʿAqabah from the Banū Sālim] Ibn Isḥāq said: And from the Banū Sālim b. ʿAwf b. ʿAmr b. al-Khazraj, then from the Banū al-ʿAjlān b. Zayd b. Ghanm b. Sālim: al-ʿAbbās b. ʿUbādah b. Naḍalah b. Mālik b. al-ʿAjlān. [The men of the ʿAqabah from the Banū Salimah with a kasrah on the lām] And from the Banū Salimah b. Saʿd b. ʿAlī b. Asad b. Sāridah b. Tazīd b. Jusham b. al-Khazraj, then from the Banū Ḥarām b. Kaʿb b. Ghanm b. Salimah: ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir b. Nābī b. Zayd b. Ḥarām. [The men of the ʿAqabah from the Banū Sawād] And from the Banū Sawād b. Ghanm b. Kaʿb b. Salimah: Quṭbah b. ʿĀmir b. Ḥadīdah b. ʿAmr b. Ghanm b. Sawād. [The men of the ʿAqabah from the Aws] And from the Aws b. Ḥārithah b. Thaʿlabah b. ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir attended it, then from the Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal b. Jusham b. al-Ḥārith b. al-Khazraj b. ʿAmr b. Mālik b. al-Aws: Abū al-Haytham b. al-Tayyihān, and his name is Mālik. Ibn Hishām said: al-Tayyihān: it may be pronounced lightly or heavily, like one's saying mayt and mayyit. [The men of the first ʿAqabah from the Banū ʿAmr] And from the Banū ʿAmr b. ʿAwf b. Mālik b. al-Aws: ʿUwaym b. Sāʿidah.
