What has been narrated about Quraysh's persecution of the believers

Translation

✧ [What Abu Jahl used to torture with those who embraced Islam] Abu Jahl, the wicked one who incited against them among men of Quraysh, when he heard of a man who had embraced Islam and had nobility and protection, he rebuked him and disgraced him and said: You have abandoned the religion of your father, though he is better than you. We will certainly make your forbearance foolish, we will certainly make your opinion ineffective, and we will certainly diminish your nobility. And if he was a merchant, he said: By Allah, we will certainly cause your trade to stagnate and we will certainly destroy your wealth. And if he was weak, he beat him and incited others against him.
