Translation
✧ [Barrah's Elegy for Her Father ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib] Barrah bint ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib said, weeping for her father: : Let both my eyes flow with streaming tears for the one of pure character and the refuge sought; For the noble of ancestry, who kindled the fire-sticks, fair of countenance, mighty in peril; For Shaybat al-Ḥamd, of generous deeds, possessor of glory, might, and pride; Possessor of forbearance and sound judgment in calamities, abundant in noble acts, immense in dawn-prayers; His is an excellence of glory over his people, radiant, shining like the light of the moon; Death came to him but did not disfigure him, through the vicissitudes of nights and the uncertainty of fate.
