The Death of Aminah and the Situation of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with His Grandfather ʿAbd al-Muttalib Thereafter
[ رِثَاءُ عَاتِكَةَ لِأَبِيهَا عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ] وَقَالَتْ عَاتِكَةُ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ تَبْكِي أَبَاهَا: : أَعَيْنِيَّ جُودَا وَلَا تَبْخَلَا بِدَمْعِكُمَا بَعْدَ نَوْمِ النِّيَامِ أَعَيْنِيَّ وَاسْحَنْفِرَا وَاسْكُبَا وَشُوبَا بُكَاءَكُمَا بِالْتِدَامِ أَعَيْنِيَّ وَاسْتَخْرِطَا وَاسْجُمَا عَلَى رَجُلٍ غَيْرِ نِكْسٍ كَهَامِ عَلَى الْجَحْفَلِ الْغَمْرِ فِي النَّائِبَاتِ كَرِيمِ الْمَسَاعِي وَفِيِّ الذِّمَامِ عَلَى شَيْبَةِ الْحَمْدِ وَارَى الزِّنَادِ وَذِي مَصْدَقٍ بَعْدُ ثَبْتِ الْمَقَامِ وَسَيْفٍ لَدَى الْحَرْبِ صَمْصَامَةٍ وَمُرْدَى الْمُخَاصِمِ عِنْدَ الخِصامِ وَسَهْلِ الْخَلِيقَةِ طَلْقِ الْيَدَيْنِ وَفِي عَدْمَلِيٍّ صَمِيمٍ لُهَامِ تَبَنَّكَ فِي بَاذِخٍ بَيْتُهُ رَفِيعُ الذُّؤَابَةِ صَعْبُ المَرَامِ
Translation
✧ [ ʿĀtikah's Elegy for Her Father ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ] ʿĀtikah bt. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib said, weeping for her father: : O my two eyes, be generous and do not withhold your tears after the sleepers have slept. O my two eyes, pour forth and shed abundantly, And mingle your weeping with striking the cheeks. O my two eyes, weep copiously and shed tears For a man not ignoble nor weak. For the great host, abundant in misfortunes, Noble in endeavors and faithful to covenants. For Shaybah of Praise, kindler of fire-sticks, And one of truthfulness, thereafter firm in station. And a sword in war, a sharp cutting blade, And a feller of the disputant at the time of contention. And easy of nature, generous of hands, And in a pure stock, of a numerous tribe. He took root in a lofty house, High of forelock, difficult of attainment.
