Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
يَوْمُ الرَّبِيعِ ثُمَّ الْتَقَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ بَعْدَ يَوْمِ الْجِسْرِ بِالرَّبِيعِ، وَهُوَ حَائِطٌ فِي نَاحِيَةِ السَّفْحِ، فَاقْتَتَلُوا قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا حَتَّى كَادَ يُفْنِي بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا، فَانْهَزَمَتِ الْأَوْسُ وَتَبِعَهَا الْخَزْرَجُ حَتَّى بَلَغُوا دُورَهُمْ، وَكَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ إِذَا انْهَزَمَتْ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ فَدَخَلَتْ دُورَهُمْ كَفَّتِ الْأُخْرَى عَنِ اتِّبَاعِهِمْ. فَلَمَّا تَبِعَ الْخَزْرَجُ الْأَوْسَ إِلَى دُورِهِمْ طَلَبَتِ الْأَوْسُ الصُّلْحَ، فَامْتَنَعَتْ بَنُو النَّجَّارِ مِنَ الْخَزْرَجِ عَنْ إِجَابَتِهِمْ. فَحَصَّنَتِ الْأَوْسُ النِّسَاءَ وَالذَّرَارِيَّ فِي الْآطَامِ، وَهِيَ الْحُصُونُ، ثُمَّ كَفَّتْ عَنْهُمُ الْخَزْرَجُ، فَقَالَ صَخْرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْبَيَاضِيُّ: أَلَا أَبْلِغَا عَنِّي سُوَيْدَ بْنَ صَامِتٍ وَرَهْطَ سُوَيْدٍ بَلِّغَا وَابْنَ الَاسْلَتِ بِأَنَّا قَتَلْنَا بِالرَّبِيعِ سَرَاتَكُمْ وَأَفْلَتَ مَجْرُوحًا بِهِ كُلُّ مُفْلِتِ فَلَوْلَا حُقُوقٌ فِي الْعَشِيرَةِ إِنَّهَا أَدَلَّتْ بِحَقٍّ وَاجِبٍ إِنْ أَدَلَّتِ لَنَالَهُمُ مِنَّا كَمَا كَانَ نَالَهُمْ مَقَانِبُ خَيْلٍ أُهْلِكَتْ حِينَ حَلَّتِ فَأَجَابَهُ سُوَيْدُ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ: أَلَا أَبْلِغَا عَنِّي صُخَيْرًا رِسَالَةً فَقَدْ ذُقْتَ حَرْبَ الْأَوْسِ فِيهَا ابْنَ الَاسْلَتِ قَتَلْنَا سَرَايَاكُمْ بِقَتْلَى سَرَاتِنَا وَلَيْسَ الَّذِي يَنْجُو إِلَيْكُمْ بِمُفْلِتِ
Translation
✧ The Day of al-Rabīʿ Then the Anṣār met after the Day of al-Jisr at al-Rabīʿ, which is a walled garden on the side of the mountain foot, and they fought a fierce battle until they nearly annihilated one another. The Aws were defeated and the Khazraj pursued them until they reached their homes. Before that, when one of the two parties was defeated and entered its homes, the other would refrain from pursuing them. But when the Khazraj pursued the Aws to their homes, the Aws sought peace, and the Banū al-Najjār of the Khazraj refused to grant it to them. So the Aws fortified the women and children in the āṭām, which are the fortresses, then the Khazraj refrained from them. Ṣakhr b. Sulaymān al-Bayāḍī said: Alā ablightā ʿannī Suwayd b. Ṣāmit / wa-rahṭ Suwayd ballighā wa-bn al-Aslat bi-annā qatalnā bi-l-Rabīʿ sarātakum / wa-aflata majrūḥan bihi kull muflit fa-lawlā ḥuqūq fī al-ʿashīrah innahā / adallat bi-ḥaqq wājib in adallat la-nālahum minnā kamā kāna nālahum / maqānib khayl uhlikat ḥīna ḥallat Then Suwayd b. al-Ṣāmit answered him: Alā ablightā ʿannī Ṣukhayran risālatan / faqad dhuqta ḥarb al-Aws fīhā ibn al-Aslat qatalnā sarāyākum bi-qatlā sarātinā / wa-laysa alladhī yanjū ilaykum bi-muflit
