Translation

✧ The War of al-Ḥuṣayn b. al-Aslat Then there was a war between the Banū Wāʾil b. Zayd of the Aws and the Banū Māzin b. al-Najjār of the Khazraj. The reason for it was that al-Ḥuṣayn b. al-Aslat al-Awsī al-Wāʾilī quarreled with a man of the Banū Māzin, and the Wāʾilī killed him, then went away to his family. A group of the Banū Māzin followed him and killed him. That reached his brother Abū Qays b. al-Aslat, so he gathered his people and sent to the Banū Māzin informing them that he was at war with them. So they prepared for fighting, and not one of the Aws and Khazraj stayed behind. They fought a fierce battle until the slain became many in both parties together. Abū Qays b. al-Aslat killed those who had killed his brother, then the Aws were routed. Waḥwaḥ b. al-Aslat blamed his brother Abū Qays and said: "He will not cease being routed by the Khazraj." Then Abū Qays said to his brother, who is given the kunya Abū Ḥuṣayn: Convey to Abū Ḥiṣn, and some of the speech with me has great import, that the son of a man's mother is not of iron nor of stone. What is it upon you that there should be for you through it a saddle as ʿUmārah? He protects your honor, and some people do not protect their honor. He builds for you good, and the building of the noble one has its traces. In verses.
