Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
Translation
✧ The Day of Aqrun Abū ʿUbaydah said: ʿAmr b. ʿAmr b. ʿUdas al-Tamīmī raided Banū ʿAbs, seized their camels, drove off their captives, and returned, until when he was at the lower part of the pass of Aqrun, he halted and consummated marriage with a girl from the captives. The pursuers caught up with him, and they fought a fierce battle. Anas al-Fawāris b. Ziyād al-ʿAbsī killed ʿAmr and his son Ḥanẓalah, and they recovered the spoils and the captives. Jarīr lamented that on behalf of Banū Dārim and said: Do you forget ʿAmr on the day of Burqat Aqrun, and Ḥanẓalah the slain while he was a youth? ʿAmr had a split lip and was leprous. He and those with him missed the pass of the road on their return and took a different route. They fell down the mountain they had taken and met with hardship. Concerning that ʿAntarah says: As if the raiding parties on the day of Nīq and Ṣārah were flocks of birds swooping down to a watering-place; it healed my soul, or came close to healing it, their tumbling down from a crumbling precipice; I had feared I would die before the funeral rites of ʿAmr were established amid wailing and bereavement. The mother of Samāʿah b. ʿAmr was from ʿAbs. His maternal uncle visited him, and he killed him in retaliation for his son. Concerning that Miskīn al-Dārimī said: Samāʿah, who would not barter lineage for a maternal uncle—among us is the killer of his maternal uncle in return for his father.
