The story of the creation of Adam (peace be upon him)
Translation
✧ The place on earth to which Adam and Eve were sent down It is said: Then God, exalted is He, sent Adam down before sunset on the day He created him, which was Friday, together with his wife Eve, from heaven. From Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: Adam ﷺ was sent down to a land called Dahnā, between Makkah and al-Ṭāʾif. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib, Ibn ʿAbbās, Qatādah, and Abū al-ʿĀliyah said: He was sent down in India. Abū Ṣāliḥ related from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: He was sent down upon a mountain in India called Nawd. And Eve at Jeddah. Ibn ʿAbbās said: He came seeking her, and every time he set his foot in a place, it became a village, and between his two steps were deserts. He traveled until he came to Jamʿ, and Eve drew near to him, so it was called al-Muzdalifah, and they recognized each other at ʿArafāt, so it was called ʿArafāt, and they met at Jamʿ, so it was called Jamʿ. The serpent was sent down at Isfahan, and Iblīs at Maysān. It is also said: Adam was sent down in the desert, and Iblīs at al-Ubullah. Abū Jaʿfar said: This is something whose soundness cannot be known except by a report that comes with the authority of proof, and we know of no report on that matter other than what is related about Adam's descent in India, for that is something whose soundness the scholars of Islam do not reject. Ibn ʿAbbās said: When Adam was sent down on Mount Nawdh, his feet touched the earth while his head was in the sky, hearing the glorification of the angels. They held him in awe, so they asked God to reduce his stature, and He reduced his stature to sixty cubits. Adam grieved for what he missed of the companionship of the angels' voices and their glorification, and he said: "O Lord, I was Your neighbor in Your abode, I had no lord other than You. You admitted me to Your garden, where I ate as I wished and dwelt as I wished. Then You sent me down to the sacred mountain, and I heard the voices of the angels and found the scent of the garden. Then You reduced me to sixty cubits, and now the sound and the sight have been cut off from me, and the scent of the garden has left me!" God, exalted is He, answered him: "Because of your disobedience, O Adam, I did that to you."
