Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors

Translation

✧ [The Najāshī's anger at Abrahah for killing Aryāṭ, then his satisfaction with him] When that reached the Najāshī, he became intensely angry and said: "He transgressed against my commander and killed him without my order." Then he swore that he would not leave Abrahah alone until he trampled his lands and cut off his forelock. So Abrahah shaved his head and filled a leather sack with dust from the land of Yemen. Then he sent it to the Najāshī, and wrote to him: "O king, Aryāṭ was only your servant, and I am your servant. We differed concerning your affair, and each of us owes obedience to you. But I was stronger in managing the affairs of the Abyssinians, more capable of controlling them, and a better governor than he. I have shaved my entire head when I learned of the king's oath, and I have sent him a sack of dust from my land so that he may place it under his feet and thus fulfill his oath regarding me." When that reached the Najāshī, he was pleased with him and wrote to him: "Remain in the land of Yemen until my command comes to you." So Abrahah stayed in Yemen.
