Translation
✧ [The Genealogy of Khuzāʿah] Ibn Isḥāq said: And Khuzāʿah say: We are the Banū ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir, from Yemen. Ibn Hishām said: And Khuzāʿah say: We are the Banū ʿAmr b. Rabīʿah b. Ḥārithah b. ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir b. Ḥārithah b. Imriʾ al-Qays b. Thaʿlabah b. Māzin b. al-Asd b. al-Ghawth; and Khindif is their mother, according to what Abū ʿUbaydah and other people of knowledge related to me. And it is said Khuzāʿah: Banū Ḥārithah b. ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir. They were only named Khuzāʿah because they separated (takhazzaʿū) from the descendants of ʿAmr b. ʿĀmir when they came from Yemen intending Syria, and they halted at Marr al-Ẓahrān and stayed there. ʿAwn b. Ayyūb al-Anṣārī, one of the Banū ʿAmr b. Sawād b. Ghanm b. Kaʿb b. Salamah of the Khazraj, said in Islam: : When we descended into the valley of Murr, Khuzāʿah separated from us, in thronging cavalry, guarding every valley of Tihāmah and taking refuge with solid lances and sharp cutting swords. These two verses are from a poem of his. And Abū al-Muṭahhar Ismāʿīl b. Rāfiʿ al-Anṣārī, one of the Banū Ḥārithah b. al-Ḥārith b. al-Khazraj b. ʿAmr b. Mālik b. al-Aws, said: When we descended into the valley of Makkah, Khuzāʿah praised the abode of the eater, the one who bears burdens. She alighted in groups and dispersed troops over every tribe between Najd and the coast. They expelled Jurhum from the valley of Makkah and won honor as Khuzāʿīs with strong backs. Ibn Hishām said: These verses are from a poem of his, and I, if Allah wills, will mention their expulsion of Jurhum in its proper place.
