Translation
✧ Mention of several events In this year, Abū al-Ḥusayn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿUmar al-Ṣūfī, the astrologer of ʿAḍud al-Dawlah, died. His birth was in al-Rayy in the year 291. In it, there was a severe earthquake in al-Mawṣil, by which many houses were destroyed and many people perished. In it, al-Manṣūr b. Yūsuf, the ruler of Ifrīqiyah, killed ʿAbd Allāh al-Kātib, and Yūsuf b. Abī Muḥammad took over the administration of affairs in Ifrīqiyah in his place; he had previously been governor of Qafṣah. In it, there was severe high prices in Iraq, due to which most of its people emigrated. Among the events in it: that death increased [in Muḥarram] from acute fevers, and many people perished. On Tuesday night, nine nights remaining of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, which is the night of the twentieth of Tammūz, an extremely heavy rain came with lightning. The matter had already been settled between Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah and his brother Sharaf al-Dawlah, and al-Ṭāʾiʿ sat in Ṣafar and sent robes of honor to Sharaf al-Dawlah. Then the army inclined to Sharaf al-Dawlah and abandoned Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah. So Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah went down to Sharaf al-Dawlah, content with whatever he would do with him. When he reached him, he kissed the ground before him three times, then kissed his hand. Sharaf al-Dawlah said to him: "How are you, and how was your condition on your way? You did nothing but what was right in coming. Go and change your clothes and rest from your fatigue." He was taken to a tent and a pavilion that had been pitched for him without a canopy. He sat silent and regretful. In Dhū al-Ḥijjah, the Chief Judge Abū Muḥammad [b. Maʿrūf] accepted the testimony of Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraquṭnī and Abū Muḥammad b. ʿUqbah. Ibn Abī al-Fawāris mentioned that al-Dāraquṭnī regretted his testimony, saying: "He used to accept my word concerning the Messenger of God ﷺ when I was alone, and now he does not accept my word concerning my own vegetables except with another." And Sharaf al-Dawlah prohibited confiscation, and returned to the people their properties.
