✧ Mention of the strife between the Turks and the Daylamites In this year, a strife occurred between the Daylamites and the Turks who were with Sharaf al-Dawlah in Baghdad. The cause of it was that the Daylamites gathered with Sharaf al-Dawlah in a great multitude, whose number reached fifteen thousand men, while the Turks were three thousand. The Daylamites behaved arrogantly toward them, and a dispute occurred between some of them over a house and a stable. Then it turned into fighting, and the Daylamites gained the upper hand due to their large numbers, and they wanted to bring out Samsam al-Dawlah and restore him to his kingship. The news reached Sharaf al-Dawlah, so he appointed someone to kill Samsam al-Dawlah if the Daylamites attempted to bring him out. Then when the Daylamites gained the upper hand over the Turks, they pursued them, and their ranks became disordered. The Turks returned upon them from their front and their rear, and they were routed, and more than three thousand of them were killed. The Turks entered the city and killed whomever they found of them, plundered their wealth, and the Daylamites dispersed: some of them sought refuge with Sharaf al-Dawlah, and some of them went away from him. The next day, Sharaf al-Dawlah entered Baghdad, and the Daylamites who had sought refuge with him were with him. Al-Ta'i' lillah came out and met him and congratulated him on his safety. Sharaf al-Dawlah kissed the ground, and the Daylamites began mentioning Samsam al-Dawlah. It was said to Sharaf al-Dawlah: "Kill him, otherwise they will make him ruler." Then Sharaf al-Dawlah made peace between the two factions, and they swore oaths to one another. Samsam al-Dawlah was carried to Fars and imprisoned in a fortress there. Sharaf al-Dawlah restored to the Sharif Muhammad b. Umar all his estates and increased them, and the revenue of his estates every year was two million and five hundred thousand dirhams. He restored to the Naqib Abu Ahmad al-Musawi his estates, and he confirmed the people in their ranks, and he forbade people from informings and did not accept them, so they felt secure and settled. Abu Mansur b. Salihan became his vizier.
