Translation
✧ Then the year 375 AH began Account of the strife in Baghdad In this year, a strife took place in Baghdad among the Daylamites. Its cause was that Asfār b. Kardawayh, one of the chief commanders, was alienated from Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah, and he inclined many of the army to obedience to Sharaf al-Dawlah. They agreed to appoint the amīr Bahāʾ al-Dawlah Abū Naṣr b. ʿAḍud al-Dawlah over Iraq as deputy for his brother Sharaf al-Dawlah. Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah was ill, so Asfār was able to carry out what he intended. He made that known and stayed away from the palace. Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah wrote to him, seeking to win him over and calm him, but that only increased his obstinacy. When he saw that state of his, he wrote to al-Ṭāʾiʿ asking him to ride out with him. Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah had recovered from his illness, but al-Ṭāʾiʿ refused that. So Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah began to act and won over Fūlādh Zamāndār, who had been in agreement with Asfār, except that he disdained to follow him because of his own high standing. When Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah wrote to him, he responded, and he made him swear an oath to what he wanted. He went out from his presence and fought Asfār, and Fūlādh defeated him. The amīr Abū Naṣr was taken captive and brought before his brother Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah. He felt compassion for him and knew that he had no guilt, so he imprisoned him honorably. At that time he was fifteen years old. Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah's authority became firm, and he was informed against Ibn Saʿdān, who had been his vizier, so he dismissed him. It was said that his inclination had been with them, so he was killed. Asfār went to al-Ahwāz and joined the amīr Abū al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAḍud al-Dawlah and served him. The rest of the army went to Sharaf al-Dawlah.
