Translation
✧ Account of the affairs of the Qarāmiṭa In this year Isḥāq and Jaʿfar al-Baḥriyyān arrived, two of the six Qarāmiṭa who are titled al-Sāda, and they took possession of al-Kūfa and gave the khuṭba for Sharaf al-Dawla. The people were disturbed by that because of the awe and might they inspired in their souls, and they possessed such awe that ʿAḍud al-Dawla and Bakhtiyār had granted them much. Their deputy in Baghdādh, known as Abū Bakr b. Shāhaweyh, exercised authority like the wazīrs, so Ṣamṣām al-Dawla seized him. When the Qarāmiṭa reached al-Kūfa, Ṣamṣām al-Dawla wrote to the two of them, treating them gently and asking them about the reason for their movement. They mentioned that the seizure of their deputy was the reason for their heading toward his lands, and they dispersed their companions and collected taxes. Abū Qays al-Ḥasan b. al-Mundhir, one of their leading men, reached al-Jāmiʿayn. Ṣamṣām al-Dawla sent the armies, accompanied by Arab tribesmen, and they crossed the Euphrates toward him and fought him. He was defeated before them, and Abū Qays and a group of their commanders were captured and killed. The Qarāmiṭa returned and dispatched another army in great numbers and with full equipment. They and the armies of Ṣamṣām al-Dawla met again at al-Jāmiʿayn, and the encounter ended in the defeat of the Qarāmiṭa. Their commander and others were killed, a group was captured, and their camp was plundered. When the defeated reached al-Kūfa, the Qarāmiṭa departed, and the army pursued them to al-Qādisiyya but did not overtake them. From that time their prestige vanished.
