Translation

✧ Mention of al-Muẓaffar's seizure of al-Baṭīḥah When the days of ʿAlī al-Muẓaffar b. ʿAlī the chamberlain grew long, and his authority became strong, he coveted independence in the affair of al-Baṭīḥah. So he forged a letter in the name of Ṣamṣām al-Dawlah to himself, implying reliance upon him in the governorship of al-Baṭīḥah, and he gave it to an unfamiliar courier, and ordered him to come to him when the commanders and soldiers were with him. He did that, and came to him with traces of dust upon him, and handed him the letter. He kissed it and opened it, and read it in the presence of the soldiers, and answered with hearing and obedience. He dismissed Abū al-Maʿālī and placed him with his mother, and assigned them a stipend, then sent them out to Wāsiṭ, and he used to provide them with what they spent. He took sole possession of the affair, conducted himself well, and acted justly among the people for a time. Then he covenanted to his sister's son Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Naṣr, surnamed Muhadhdhab al-Dawlah, who at that time was surnamed al-Amīr al-Mukhtār, and after him to Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Jaʿfar, who was the son of his other sister. And the house of ʿImrān b. Shāhīn came to an end. And thus the world is one of turns, and how similar is his condition to the condition of Bādh, for he possessed sovereignty, and the sovereignty passed to his sister's son Mumahhid al-Dawlah b. Marwān.
