✧ Mention of the dismissal of Abu al-ʿAbbas from Khurasan and the appointment of Ibn Simjur When Abu al-ʿAbbas returned from Bukhara to Naysabur, as we have mentioned, the amir Nuh appointed ʿAbd Allah b. ʿUzayr as his vizier. He was an opponent of Abu al-Husayn al-ʿUtbi and Abu al-ʿAbbas. When he assumed the vizierate, he began by dismissing Abu al-ʿAbbas from Khurasan and restoring Abu al-Hasan b. Simjur to it. The commanders in Khurasan wrote to him, asking him to confirm Abu al-ʿAbbas in his post, but he did not accede to that. Abu al-ʿAbbas wrote to Fakhr al-Dawla b. Buwayh seeking his support, and he supplied him with much money and an army. They stayed in Naysabur, and Abu Muhammad ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAbd al-Razzaq came to them, supporting them against Ibn Simjur. At that time, Abu al-ʿAbbas was in Marw. When Abu al-Hasan b. Simjur and Faʾiq heard of the arrival of Fakhr al-Dawla's army at Naysabur, they marched against them. The army of Fakhr al-Dawla and Ibn ʿAbd al-Razzaq withdrew and stayed waiting for Abu al-ʿAbbas. Ibn Simjur and those with him camped outside Naysabur. Abu al-ʿAbbas arrived with his forces and joined the Daylami army, camping on the other side. Battles took place between them over several days. Ibn Simjur fortified himself in the town, and Fakhr al-Dawla sent another army to Abu al-ʿAbbas, more than two thousand horsemen. When Ibn Simjur saw the strength of Abu al-ʿAbbas, he withdrew from Naysabur, departing from it at night. Abu al-ʿAbbas's army pursued him, and they captured much of their wealth and mounts. Abu al-ʿAbbas took control of Naysabur and corresponded with the amir Nuh b. Mansur, seeking to win his favor and compassion. Ibn ʿUzayr persisted in dismissing him, and the mother of the amir Nuh agreed with him on that. She had authority in her son's state, and they acted according to her opinion. One of the people of the age said about that: Two things the man of discipline cannot overcome: the judgment of women and the rule of boys. As for women, their inclination is to desire, And the boy runs without a rein.
